MEN ON DESERT ISLAND SAVED BY S.O.S. IN THE SAND
Three men were rescued from a tiny Pacific island after writing a giant SOS sign in the sand that was spotted from above. The men had been missing in the Micronesia archipelago, east of the Philippines, for nearly three days when their distress signal was spotted Sunday by searchers. The men had set out from their home island in a 23-foot (7-meter) boat on July 30 and had intended to travel about 27 miles (43 kilometers) to another island when they sailed off course and ran out of fuel. Military planes from Australia and the U.S. performed a search by air, and the SOS in the sand led rescuers to the deserted island about 118 miles (190 kilometers) from where they had set out. The men were found in good condition, and a patrol boat was able to pick them up.
* But when rescuers told the men what had been going on in the world for the previous three days, and they all decided to stay on the deserted island.
* This takes social distancing to a whole new level.
* The men’s only regret, they said, was not waiting one more day before eating Mr. and Mrs. Howell.
* Tom Hanks sent the men a nice typewritten letter that said “Not so easy, is it, fellas?”
* So, a nice happy ending. Until they get the bill for the rescue.
