MEN AND WOMEN KNOW SOME WORDS BETTER THAN THE OTHER
The journal Behavior Research Methods analyzed 61,858 English words and has determined that there are certain words that men are more familiar with than women; conversely, there are words that women know more then men.
– Words that are known better by men: howitzer, thermistor, azimuth, femtosecond, milliamp, aileron, servo, degauss, boson, checksum, piezoelectricity, gauss, katana, shemale, neodymium, yakuza, teraflop, strafe, parsec, bushido
– Words that are known better by women: peplum, tulle, chignon, bandeau, freesia, chenille, kohl, verbana, doula, ruche, espadrille, damask, jacquard, whipstitch, boucle, taffeta, sateen, chambray, pessary, voile
* All I can say is, the male words are probably names of super hero villains, and the women’s words are either shoes or parts of the female reproductive system.
* Shouldn’t the list for men include all the hundreds of parts involved when you’re doing car repair?
* Where are we going with this? His and hers dictionaries?
* Everyone knows the word ‘jacquard,’ as in “You are such a jacquard.”
* “Degauss” is a common Minnesota word, no? “Look at degauss dere on de lake, you betcha.” (degauss = the geese)
