MAN DIGS HOLE IN HOUSE TO LOOK FOR BURIED TREASURE, FALLS INTO HOLE, DIES

A man in Minas Gerais, Brazil, died after falling down a 130-foot hole he dug under his kitchen floor believing there was gold buried under his property. João Pimenta, 71, slipped from a wooden platform on a cable, which he would use to lower and raise himself, and plunged down the 3-foot wide shaft he had excavated. Neighbors said Pimenta had what he called a “prophetic dream,” and became obsessed with the idea that there was gold buried beneath his kitchen floor. He spent over a year digging for the treasure. He hired people to help him dig. He recently had talked of obtaining dynamite to blow up a large rock that was in the way.
* I guess he couldn’t see that well.
* They say 46 percent of home accidents happen in the kitchen, but how many of those happen because there’s a bottomless pit next to your refrigerator?
* Maybe the real treasure was the friends he made along the way, who told him his was insane.
* Next thing that happens: Somebody discovers just eight more inches further and he would have hit the gold.
* Folks, don’t let this happen to you. Before you start digging, get the proper permits.
* And that’s the hole story.
