MAN DIES FROM DOG LICK
A 63-year-old man in Germany has died from a dog lick. The case, published in the European Journal of Case Reports in Internal Medicine, says the previously healthy man’s infection was caused by a bacterium (capnocytophaga canimorsus) that is commonly found in the mouths of dogs and cats, according to the report. It is transmitted to humans only in rare cases. The bacteria can be transmitted through an animal bite, but the man had not been bitten, just licked. At first the man reported flu-like symptoms and later developed severe sepsis and blood spots, bruising and discoloration of the skin as well as necrosis. The man was treated in intensive care but his health continued to deteriorate and he died from multiple organ failure.
* But I’m sure your dog is okay.
* Oddly, the dog’s tongue also rotted and fell off.
* Was he at least able to locate the dog and give it a good kick in the rear before he croaked?
* Too cheap to spring for a bottle of Purell?
* This is a fun story for all you dog groomers out there.
* Takes a licking and doesn’t keep on ticking.
