LARGE GROUP OF PADDLE-BOARDERS NEEDED RESCUING
Vancouver police say 17 paddle-boarders had to be rescued near Lions Gate Bridge on Monday while trying to cross English Bay. A tugboat operator spotted the paddle-boarders struggling in strong winds, waves and currents, and alerted Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue. Officials blamed the group’s lack of experience, combined with wind, tides, and waves created by heavy marine traffic, saying, “Unfortunately, this group thought there was safety in numbers, and they greatly underestimated the conditions.” The 17 rescued were part of a larger group of 30 that set out to cross the bay. The other 13 made it across.
* … and were reported to be “pretty smarmy” about it.
* What’s the punishment here? A paddlin’?
* They were all up the creek WITH a paddle, and it didn’t help.
* Their plan was all wet. And so were they.
* Are they aware they can cross the bay on that Lions Gate Bridge?
