IOWA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION EXPLAINS "DEER CROSSING" SIGN
The Iowa Department of Transportation has actually posted a message on Facebook alerting citizens to the difference between a “pedestrian crossing” sign and a “deer crossing” sign. The I-DOT’s posting read:
Q. Why don’t you put these signs where it is safer for the deer to cross?
A. Deer can’t read signs. Drivers can. This sign isn’t intended to tell deer where to cross, it’s for drivers to be alert that deer have been in this area in the past.
Then they added, “We actually get this question on a pretty regular basis.” The timing of the post is meant to warn drivers as breeding season begins.
* Do they mean deer breeding season, or Iowa people breeding season? According to this story, both seem a little frightening.
* What idiots! Of course deer can’t read a sign that says “Deer Crossing”. You’d have to write it in deer language! Duh!
* Look, America only ranks 14th in the world for “cognitive skills and educational attainment”. You gotta expect stuff like this.
* In a few more years, self-driving cars will be here and we’ll all look back on this and laugh.
