IF WE COULD VOTE ON WHO’S ON OUR CURRENCY

A personal loan company out of Sweden called Sambla is looking for attention, so they came up with a premise: What would countries’ currency look like if the person depicted on them was chosen by their popularity, rather than their historical significance? They looked at who was the most searched-for people on Wikipedia per country in 2023, and from that information determined that THAT person would be on the country’s dollar bill. For example, instead of US banknotes featuring George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Ben Franklin and Alexander Hamilton, the USA dollar bill would feature: Neal Mohan, CEO of Youtube, because he is the most-searched-for person on Wikipedia in the United States. According to a company in Sweden.
OK, are we set on the premise? Here are some others:
– Kenya: Barack Obama on their currency
– United Kingdom: Tom Holland, Actor
– Wales: Roald Dahl, Author
– Scotland: Ewan McGregor, Actor
– Canada: Elon Musk
– Australia: Margot Robbie
– Jamaica: Harry Belafonte
– Portugal: Cristiano Ronaldo, Footballer
– Argentina: Lionel Messi, Footballer
– Italy: Lionel Messi, Footballer
– Brazil: Pele, Footballer
– Sweden: Greta Thunberg, Activist
– Denmark: Scarlett Johansson
* “I’ll give you two Hollands for a Johansson.”
* They stopped after just 13 countries ’cause, y’know, it was dumb.
* If we’ve learned nothing else from this, it’s NEVER take out a personal loan from a company called Sambla.
* I hope their financial research team is sharper than their P.R. department.
