GROUNDHOG DAY HOTEL ROOMS MORE EXPENSIVE THAT SUPER BOWL HOTEL ROOMS

Groundhog Day is this Thursday, and apparently people are willing to pay big bucks to celebrate the traditional holiday in Pennsylvania with Punxsutawney Phil. The hotel website Trivago looked at average hotel rates for Punxsutawney around Groundhog Day. It found they’re actually more expensive than those in Houston for this Sunday’s Super Bowl. According to Trivago, it costs about $450 for a one-night hotel stay in Punxsutawney, compared to the $340 for a room in Houston.
* Maybe it has something to do with, oh, I don’t know, supply and demand. Does Punxsutawny have 80,000 hotel rooms like Houston? Or more like 30?
* Listen, they’ve been doing this since the 1880’s. They know how to squeeze every penny out of it.
* The t-shirts and coffee mugs are probably more expensive, too.
* It may cost more to go to Groundhog Day, but at least you don’t have to see Lady Gaga during half-time.
* If I’m spending $450 for a one-night hotel stay in Punxsutawney, I want the damn groundhog to bring me room service before it goes out to see its shadow.
* You mean Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell were paying that much in the “Groundhog Day” movie? That ruins everything.
* It may be a small town but it understands big-city price gouging.
* You know your hotel is charging too much when the front desk clerk is wearing a robber mask.
* That gives me an interesting idea. Why not have some groundhogs digging holes on the field during the game? It could make it more exciting.
