GOLFER SETS RECORD FOR LONGEST PLAY
Long Island, New York golfer Kelechi Ezihie, who only started playing golf two years ago after learning the game as a caddy, hit the course at Huntington Crescent Club at 6 p.m. on Sunday with the intention of setting a Guinness World Record by playing nonstop for 24 hours. However, he found out at around 3 a.m. Monday that a British golfer had played 32 hours straight in Norway. So Ezihie set a goal for 36 hours, which he achieved on Tuesday morning at 6 a.m. He was allowed five-minute breaks each hour, but otherwise had to keep walking and swinging. At night he played with glow-in-the-dark balls. (* How do they know?) He performed the feat to raise money and awareness for Life’s WORC, a nonprofit serving people with disabilities. Guinness officials will now review video evidence to determine if he meets all the criteria for the record.
* No one who’s been up that long should be driving.
* Just when I’m getting ready with my smart-alec wisecracks, they have to throw in that he did it for charity. Dang!
* He had to stop after 36 hours at 6 a.m. because, like any golfer, he had a 7 a.m. tee time.
* How many 19th holes did he play?
* Everybody was pleased. Well, except the British guy who played for 32 hours. He’s freakin’ LIVID.
