FORMER PUNK DRUMMER, NOW OB/GYN, SAVES PROSPECTIVE JUROR'S LIFE DURING HIS MISTRIAL

A San Francisco Bay Area obstetrician-gynecologist – and co-founder of legendary punk band The Offspring – saved a prospective juror’s life during his own medical malpractice trial. Dr. James Lilja, a San Jose-based physician and founding drummer of The Offspring. Lilja left The Offspring in the late 1980s to deliver offspring. He also specializes in the treatment of cancerous and precancerous conditions of the female reproductive tract. Lilja now faces medical malpractice charges for alleged negligent treatment of a patient. But during jury selection, one of more than 35 prospective jurors collapsed, hit his head and lost consciousness. Lilja and his nurse assistant rushed from the courtroom to the juror’s side and found him without a pulse and not breathing. They administered CPR and shocked the man with an automated external defibrillator. When paramedics arrived, the man remained unconscious but had a pulse. The condition of the patient is unknown. The judge, however, declared a mistrial, fearing the doc’s heroics would sway the jury.
* Once hardcore, always hardcore, man.
* Can he use the guy he saved as a character witness?
* I hope he beats the rap. Beats it like a Ludwig snare with triple-flange hoops and a double-ply coated batter head. I have no idea what I’m talking about.
