FAMILY SCOLDED BY NEIGHBORS FOR NOT CHRISTMAS DECORATING
A Vacaville, California, family received an anonymous letter in the mail scolding them for not putting up Christmas decorations. Lyndia Zarra lives on Candy Cane Lane. Here’s the letter she received:
“Attention: To live on Lollipop Lane and Candy Cane Lane is an honor and a privilege that the residents take very seriously. It is completely unacceptable to NOT decorate a house for Christmas if you live on Candy Cane Lane or Lollipop Lane. Those that will not respect this long-standing tradition should not be living on these special streets. And tens of thousands of people wish all the Scrooges would not destroy our city’s traditions for their own selfish reasons. Thank you, (signed) The Entire City of Vacaville, Surrounding Communities, residents of Candy Cane Lane, Lollipop Lane, our Families, our Friends, Everyone.”
It turns out that Lyndia had a pretty good reason for not decorating: Her mom, Cheri, passed away from cancer very recently. Dealing with the grief over the loss of her mother, Lyndia refrained from decorating this year. “When you get a letter like that, it’s heartbreaking,” Lyndia said Wednesday. “Because it’s not like I was trying to make the street ugly or whatever. I just had to deal with my family and I didn’t need somebody telling me how bad I was doing,” she said. Lyndia shared the nasty letter on the Solano County Community Awareness Facebook page and has received hundreds of messages of support.
* Also, she’s Jewish.
* Wasn’t this a Hallmark Channel movie?
* If she wants to find out who wrote the letter, she should go to all her neighbors and find the one that won’t look her in the eye.
* It’s like a Bizarro Grinch who forces you to enjoy Christmas.
* Can you imagine the gangs on Lollipop Lane? “Nice house you have there, be a shame if it somehow got…’decorated’… overnight…”
* If only there was, like, an amendment to the Constitution that let you express yourself however you wanted.
* Meh. Living on Candy Cane Lane and Lollipop Lane is for suckers.
* PHONE TOPIC: Do you feel neighborhood pressure to decorate? Is it a requirement of your homeowners association?
