DIM ROMANTIC LIGHTING MAKES FOOD TASTE WORSE
Dim lighting may be romantic for dining, but a new study found that poorly lit food doesn’t taste as good. Researchers at Maastricht University, in the Netherlands, enlisted 138 participants to eat a four-course meal at a restaurant under various lighting conditions. Customers were asked to take a survey at the end of the meal, rating both “taste intensity” on a scale of one to nine and the dining room’s lighting. Guests in the bright ambient light condition rated the overall taste as more intense as opposed to guests in the dim ambient light condition. The study was published in the journal Food Quality and Preference.
* I get the feeling they invent these journals simply to publish the one study, and then the journals disappear.
* How do they explain snacks in a movie theater?
* I would say brighter light making food tastes better applies to everything but oysters.
* I’m going to have to put a brighter bulb in my refrigerator. Make my refrigerator grazing more enjoyable.
* Pfff – like Americans care how light or dark it is when they’re eating. Just pass the ketchup.
