COUPLE FINDS MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE
David and Linda Humphries were on Sapelo Island, off the coast of Georgia, to clean up beach litter caused by Hurricane Irma when a plastic bottle caught their eyes. There was a message, in a child’s handwriting – “Hello My Name is Miranda Dawn Moss. I am 8 years old. I am in third grade.” It was dated September 26, 1988. The Humphries tracked down Miranda Moss Chavez on Facebook, who was elated, having put the message in the bottle 29 years ago when she was on Edisto Beach, South Carolina. Yes, the bottle had traveled an incredible one-hundred-and-fifty miles as the crow flies, or 3 hours and 41 minutes if you take I-95. Not much of a story, really.
* She was elated. ELATED! Because … uh … hmm. I guess because she has nothing else going on in her life.
* And now Greenpeace is all over Miranda’s case for littering the ocean.
* It’s such a colorful note. I feel like I know her.
* A plastic bottle survived hurricanes that destroyed entire islands? Maybe they should build their houses with them.
* Meanwhile, the plastic bottle’s thinking: “I just can’t get away from this Miranda person!”
