COMPANIES OFFER UNUSUAL PERKS TO THEIR WORKERS
Despite the tight U.S. labor market – or perhaps because of it – there are some companies offering some pretty good perks to make their employees happy. Here are some examples:
– The Zebra, an Austin, Texas-based car insurance comparison website, with about 100 employees, offers monthly maid service, money toward “whatever makes you happy” – like yoga, manicures or pottery classes – unlimited paid time off, a company gym, or reimbursement for an outside gym membership.
– C3 Metrics, a Portsmouth, New Hampshire-based company that analyzes advertising and website viewership, with about 40 employees, offers monthly massages, Uber and Lyft rides, catered lunch daily, gym memberships, and weekends that begin by 3 p.m. on Fridays.
– Basecamp, a Chicago-based maker of project management software, with about 50 employees, offers 30-day paid sabbatical every three years, vacation expenses, $1,000 reimbursement for any kind of lessons, including guitar, cooking or flight school, a four-day workweek in the summer, massages, and free dry cleaning.
– Tinsel, a New York-based event design and planning company, with about 10 full-time staffers, offers performance rewards of a staffer’s choosing which include tattoos, massages, dinner or concert tickets; employees can work at home one day a week and be on call or work remotely the day after a national holiday. Staffers can bring dogs to work; the company has outings like beach days, New York skyline cruises or roller skating days.
– Geniuslink, a Seattle-based company that manufactures software to streamline online retailing, with about a dozen full-time employees, offers Bose noise-canceling headphones, soccer tickets, Amazon gift cards, daily lunches at nearby restaurants, unlimited snacks and beverages, free parking or public transportation.
* The best one is the unlimited paid time off. Sounds like you never have to show up.
* Unlimited paid time off? They stole that idea from Congress.
* A car insurance comparison website with 100 employees? Are they doing their calculations with an abacus?
* You know what we get here at the radio station? A shared refrigerator.
* We also get all the Lysol we want to spray on the microphones.
