COLONIZE MARS: 110 PEOPLE
Scientists at the Bordeaux Institut Nationwide Polytechnique in France used a mathematical model to calculate just how many people would be needed in order to build a self-sustaining colony on Mars. The group would have to be large enough to create a society that could continue to produce the resources and commodities necessary to live. The answer was: 110 people. The model is based on a calculation involving available time of settlers and the time needed to set up necessary structures necessary for survival. In the projection, settlers would live in an oxygen-filled glass dome and focus on agricultural projects that would help them sustain the community.
* So, the entire U.S. Senate and ten others. That’s a good start.
* Agricultural projects? Just, please, no zucchini.
* If they organize an intramural softball league up there, two people are going to have to sit out.
* “Uh-oh – Janet says she’s pregnant. We’re gonna have to draw straws to see who goes out the airlock.”
