COLD IGUANAS FALLING FROM TREES IN FLORIDA
It’s cold enough in Florida that iguanas are falling from the trees. Temperatures dipped below 40 degrees Fahrenheit early Thursday in parts of South Florida. The cold-blooded creatures native to Central and South America get sluggish when temperatures fall below 50 degrees; any colder and they freeze up. Residents finding stiff iguanas are advised to leave them alone, as they may feel threatened and bite once they warm up. Green iguanas are an invasive species in Florida known for eating through landscaping and digging burrows that undermine infrastructure.
* Sounds to me like a missed opportunity for invasive species eradication. I’d hand everyone a shovel and say, “Get to it!”
* “Release the hungry ferrets!”
* Iguanas may be standoff-ish, but calling them cold-blooded? That’s just mean.
* I supposed I’d get hauled up on sexual harassment charges if I ask if anyone wants to see my stiff iguana?
