COBRA ESCAPES SWEDISH ZOO
A Swedish zoo is on partial lockdown after a deadly 8-foot-long king cobra escaped its cage in front of visitors. The venomous snake was filmed by a visitor slithering out of his terrarium through an overhead lamp fixture at Skansen Aquarium on Saturday, just a few days after he arrived. One of the snake keepers, Bo Jonsson, admitted to a Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter: “We have clearly made a mistake.” The aquarium part of the zoo will remain closed until the cobra is caught. Staff has been using flour to track the snake’s movements, and sticky traps to catch it. Meanwhile, the zoo is insisting guests in other parts of the zoo, including the gift shop, are safe and those parts will remain open. The zoo says, “The risk of it getting out is considered non-existent. And even if it could get out, it won’t survive the cold climate.”
* “And if there’s a heat wave, well, then I’m sure an elephant will probably step on it. Except we don’t have any elephants, we’re an aquarium. So, everybody – you’re on your own.”
* You can still go inside, you just have to sign about 80 release forms.
* I would advise going to the zoo with either a suit of armor, or stilts.
* To us it’s a zoo. To the snake, it’s a buffet.
* All they can do is sit tight, and wait for the screams.
