CHINA IS NOT SENDING DUCKS TO EAT THE PAKISTANI LOCUSTS
Despite what you may have heard, China will not be sending ducks to Pakistan to feed on the plague of locusts. A report in the Ningbo Evening News had said 100,000 ducks would be sent from Zhejiang province to Pakistan to deal with its worst locust invasion in two decades. China did once deploy ducks, whose natural diet includes insects, to fight a similar infestation in the north-western Xinjiang region two decades ago, which was reportedly very effective. But Zhang Long, a professor from China Agricultural University, told reporters that ducks would not be suited to the conditions in Pakistan. “Ducks rely on water, but in Pakistan’s desert areas, the temperature is very high.” He advised the use of chemical or biological pesticides instead.
* Or nukes, whichever is easier.
* Screw it, they’re just ducks, right?
* Needless to say, the idea was pretty daffy.
* Locusts … dry, hot dessert? Carpet-bomb the place with hungry geckos.
