CHANGES IN THE KITCHEN SINCE THE SHUTDOWN

A Canadian writer named Katherine Martinko has noticed how mealtime has changed around her house since the quarantine. Do any of these sound familiar to you?
– Everything has slowed down. She’s cooking longer, slower recipes, and there’s no longer a rush for breakfast to get the kids out to school.
– The family sits down together for every meal.
– They’re eating less meat, because Martinko has more time in the morning to think about dinner and to pre-soak beans and chickpeas for vegetarian dinners.
– Martinko says she’s digging out special equipment: The yogurt maker, the ice cream maker, the pressure cooker, the tortilla press, the mixer, even the rolling pin, things she has rarely used in the past because of not having enough time.
* I thought all those gizmos were sold as time-savers.
* If this keeps up, we’ll find ourselves rolling back to butter churns and backyard chickens.
* Speaking of which, is she brewing her own sarsaparilla?
* I can’t wait ’til this is over and they start running the trolleys again.
* There’s two ways out of this home isolation: either you snack all day, or you get outside and walk or jog. You’re either going to end up 5 pounds lighter or 15 pounds heavier.
* PHONE TOPIC: What kitchen gadget or machine have you pulled out of the back of the cabinet since the shutdown?
