CDC: AMERICANS MISUSE CLEANING PRODUCTS

On Friday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published the results of an online survey of 502 adults in May about American’s use of cleaning products to stop the spread of Covid-19. Some of the findings:
– 25% of respondents reported at least one adverse health effect which resulted from using cleaners or disinfectants, including nose or sinus irritation, skin irritation, eye irritation, dizziness, lightheadedness or headache, upset stomach or nausea, or breathing problems.
– 19% of respondents have put bleach in their food.
– 4% have gargled or inhaled diluted bleach, soapy water or other cleaning solutions to attempt to kill the virus.
– 18% have washed their bodies with household cleaning and disinfectant products.
To be very, very, very clear: Don’t ever do this. None of this cleaning behavior is recommended by the CDC. It will hurt you. In addition, people said they were cleaning more frequently because of the pandemic, but only about half said that they really knew how to clean and disinfect their home safely.
* A massive misuse of cleaning products. And yet I get criticized when people come over and see I never clean my place.
* How long did humans survive without any cleaning products? 400,000 years? Case closed.
* I can’t help but believe that none of this would have happened if only we’d had more toilet paper. But no, stores ran out, and we all got the Covid.
* If products weren’t safe, they wouldn’t put them in stores, right?
