BURNOUT IS NOW A DISEASE

“Burnout syndrome” has been recognized for the first time as an official medical diagnosis by the World Health Organization. The designation was included Saturday in the WHO’s International Classification of Diseases, which is widely used as a benchmark for diagnosis and health insurers. Burnout is described as “a syndrome resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed.” The characteristics of burnout syndrome:
– Feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion.
– Increased mental distance from one’s job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one’s job.
– Reduced professional efficacy.
* Great. Now I have to look up “efficacy,” and I’m too burned out to do that. (Definition: “the ability to produce a desired or intended result.”)
* Does this mean worker’s comp will pay for my vacation?
* By this time next Tuesday, every single Disney theme park employee will be suing the company.
* And wait’ll the Amazon warehouse workers get wind of this.
* Burnout is the disease, and the cure is: zone out.
