Charlotte McCourt, a New Jersey sixth-grader, has been selling Girl Scout cookies, but was dismayed that only two of the boxes she had sold were marked to be donated to U.S. military troops, so her father suggested she write a letter to a wealthy family friend who might be willing to donate a bunch. In her letter, she described each cookie in brutally honest terms, and rated them on a scale of 1-10.
– Trefoils she called “Kind of boring”
– Toffee-tastics are “As flavorless as dirt”
– Thin Mints only get rated a 9
– Savannah Smiles get a 7 for their “divine taste”
– Do-Si-Do get a 5 for their unoriginality and blandness
– Samoas get a 9 for their amazing flavor
– She had not tried the new S’more, so she did not rate that cookie
Charlotte’s dad, as it turns out, is a writer and producer on the podcast “The Way I Heard It,” with “Dirty Jobs” host Mike Rowe. He found the letter hysterical. Rowe posted on his Facebook page a video of himself reading the letter and asked viewers to reward Charlotte’s honesty. “Send the message that when you tell the truth, good things happen,” Rowe said. Since his posting, Charlotte has sold more than 15,000 boxes, with 7,000 boxes donated to our troops.
