AUDIO: STOP CALLING IT VELCRO
The company that makes Velcro is angry that everybody calls similar products Velcro. Like calling every tissue a Kleenex, they say calling every cloth fastener “Velcro” is trademark infringement. To get the word out, the Velcro company has made a two-minute video along the lines of “We Are the World” titled “Don’t Say Velcro”, begging people not to call it “Velcro”. They would prefer we call it “hook and loop”.

* Hook and loop sounds like a football play: “DeShawn, you run the hook and loop.” “You mean the Velcro play?” “Yeah.”
* “Mom, I need some Velcro.” Well, you can just see how that hurts their company.
* Maybe they should write this down and hand out Xeroxes.
* Hey, I’m trying to offer a Band-Aid.
* I think this is something we can all agree to ignore. Who said Americans can’t unite behind a cause?
* Hook and loop? Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper (real name!) might have a thing or two to say about this.
