AUDIO: NEW YORK HIT WITH FOURTH STORM IN A MONTH
The fourth nor’easter in a month is hitting New York City, where it is expected to dump as much as 10 inches of snow and disrupt travel Wednesday. Winds of about 45 mph are also expected. On March 2, the first nor’easter canceled thousands of flights and disrupted the region’s commuter rail systems. Five days later, the second nor’easter knocked power out for hundreds of thousands of people in New Jersey and the Hudson Valley. On March 12, a third storm slammed Long Island and Connecticut with as much as 18 inches of snow. And now? Four nor’easters in three weeks is highly unusual, but it happens when a pattern locks in. Brian Hurley, senior forecaster at the National Weather Service, says the jet stream is stuck in a plummeting pattern that brings plenty of moisture from the south up the East Coast.
* Hey, at least there’s no sharks involved.
* If this was a movie, we’d teach the jet stream a lesson with some nuclear weapons.
* New York is thinking of changing its name to East North Dakota.
* Winter is like a Broadway show – held over for an extended run.
* One more thing – can we please stop saying “nor’easter”? It’s not like we’re all fishing for lobster off the coast of Maine, for Pete’s sake.
CLIP: A song parody, “God Hates New York”. We did this several years ago for similar circumstances, and it holds up pretty well for what’s happening now.
