AUDIO: BEE SOUNDS KEEP ELEPHANTS OFF THE RAILROAD TRACKS
Officials with India’s Northeast Frontier Railway have started using the recorded sound of buzzing bees to keep elephants from wandering onto the tracks. The “Honey Bee Sound System” is used in locations in Rishikesh known to be frequented by elephants. Officials said villagers who spot elephants in the area alert the company, and workers then engage the sound system to play the sound of bees, which elephants are known to avoid for fear of being stung.
* They hear the bees, the elephants all run off in a panic and stampede through the village. So, mission accomplished, I guess.
* If that doesn’t work, they play Jerry Seinfeld’s “Bee Movie,” and that does the trick.
* Then the bears attacked, looking for honey.
* So much for elephants being one of the smartest mammals.
* Hey – this is how I keep kids off my lawn!
* Sadly, this has put the guy in the tiger suit out of work.
* Anyway, that’s the buzz from Rishikesh.
