AT LAST, SMART SOCKS
Here’s something new for your feet: computerized socks. Sensoria Fitness Socks and Anklet is meant for serious runners (* and maybe power walkers, I guess). The socks are equipped with interwoven sensors and conductive fibers that gather and transmit information to a Bluetooth anklet. The system counts your steps, tracks your speed, and tells you how your feet are hitting the ground. They also pair with a smartphone app that provides real-time stride analysis and serves as a virtual running coach, and an online dashboard that charts your progress over time. The price: $199. But here’s what you get: two pairs of the smart socks which, according to the Sensoria website, can only be machine-washed about 60 times, and they should not go in the dryer. Each additional two-pack costs $49. Sensoria recommends that you have four pairs of socks handy – but also implies that you will probably have to buy four pairs every year.
* What if you lose one in the laundry?
* I don’t wants socks that are smarter than me.
* What if someone hacks your socks, and makes you run faster than you want? What if they make you walk out into the street against your will and get hit by a bus? What if they make you walk into a bank and rob it?
* The socks also tell you when your feet smell, and refuse to go on until you wash them.
* Coming soon: a smart handkerchief that analyzes how you blow your nose.
