ASTRONAUTS COULD USE PEE TO BUILD A MOON BASE
An international team of researchers have proposed that Earthlings build their future moonbase structures out of lunar soil and urine. They say urea, an organic compound that makes up urine, is an effective binding agent for concrete. Engineers from Norway, Spain, the Netherlands and Italy, whose findings were recently published in the Journal of Cleaner Production, showed that incorporating urea into a concrete blend could make the mixture more pliant and thus easier to handle under the moon’s harsh conditions.
* Ew, who would want to handle it?
* Need another moonbase wall? Send more beer.
* Send my dog up. He’s never short of a squirt.
* On the moon, though, you gotta remember to zip up your fly when you’re done, or…pttth! you’re dead.
* They don’t suggest building anything on the moon out of poop, ’cause that would be gross.
