ART DETECTIVE “RECOVERS” STOLEN VAN GOGH
An art detective has recovered a van Gogh painting stolen from the Netherlands’ Singer Laren museum in March 2020. The painting, “The Parsonage Garden at Nuenen in Spring,” is valued between $3.2 million and $6.4 million. Detective Arthur Brand said a visitor appeared at his home in Amsterdam with a blue IKEA bag on Monday night. He took it up to his apartment and unzipped it, revealing the masterpiece. Brand said no criminals could keep the painting for long because it had such a reputation. The anonymous person who’d dropped off the painting claimed they had nothing to do with the original theft, reportedly telling Brand that having the art had caused “a massive headache.”
* I thought you could always sell stolen masterpieces to Bond villains, or shadowy billionaire international arms dealers?
* I could be an art detective. You just sit around and wait for someone to knock at your door with the goods.
* The detective took back the van Gogh, saw the returner get back in his vehicle, and watched the van go.
* I bet he hung it in his bathroom for a couple of days before giving it back. I would.
* Valued between $3.2 and $6.4 million? Nice that they could pin it down to a number between 100 and 200 percent.
