AMERICANS TRY TO BRING UNEXPLODED BOMB ON AIRPLANE OUT OF ISRAEL
An American family touring Israel spent some time exploring the Golan Heights, a contested strip of land Israel captured from Syria in a war in 1967. The area remains littered with landmines, barbed wire and unexploded bombs. They actually found one – an unexploded 10-inch shell – and decided it would make a nice souvenir from their trip. On the way home last Thursday, at the Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, they approached airport security and asked about the unexploded shell as they checked their luggage, sparking a major panic as dozens of passengers ran – I mean, RAN [the video looks like the “Does anybody know how to fly an airplane” panic scene from ‘Airplane!’] – from the area and sought shelter wherever they could find it. The family was allowed to board their flight home after an interrogation.
* … with a special invitation to return to Israel, the next time hell freezes over.
* Anybody else picturing the Griswold family from the National Lampoon “Vacation” movies?
* Touring an area full of landmines and unexploded bombs. How much is the travel insurance for a trip like that?
* And how does Israel sell these tours in a brochure? “A great travel destination for people who love surprises”?
* “Did you bring anything home from your trip to Israel?” “Yes, a sore butt from the anal probe during the interrogation.”
