AIRPORT OFFERS FLIGHT TO NOWHERE

In Taiwan, Taipai’s Songshan Airport is offering passengers a trip to nowhere. Over the next couple of weeks, people who have signed up for the experience receive boarding passes, head to the airport, go though airport security, wait at the gate and, finally, board the airplane. They sit there awhile, while the plane sits at the gate, and then they disembark and go home. The offer to do this received about 7,000 responses, though only 60 lucky (* so very lucky) people were chosen. The half-day airplane “trips” will continue in the next couple of weeks. The experience allows the airport to practice, promote and show off new safety measures they’ve installed due to the coronavirus.
* It’s designed for people who really, really hate themselves.
* People who have done it say it’s like flying out of Chicago in the winter. (Or Boston, if you’re in New England.)
* To make sure you get the full experience of disappointment, the in-flight movie is “Cats”.
* Well, heck – who wouldn’t want a break from the family after being cooped up for three months?
* For an extra $25, they’ll give you the experience of losing your invisible luggage.
* On the bright side: Very, very little chance of a plane crash.
