COMPANY TURNS ROAD KILL INTO FURS
Petite Mort Furs is a 2-year-old company out of Boston which makes neck muffs, leg warmers, hats, purses and more from roadkill. Company owner Pamela Paquin says she’s offering the fur industry an alternative to wild fur trapping and large-scale fur farms. “All this fur is being thrown away,” Paquin said. “If we can pick that up, we never have to kill another fur-bearing animal again.” Despite the decades of publicity from anti-fur groups, wearing animal fur is still very popular, particularly in China and Russia. That demand, she said, is part of the reason she chose to jump into the industry. “Clearly advocacy had failed,” Paquin said. “Alternatives must be found. Making use of animals that would otherwise be thrown away is sensible.” Each of her fur pieces comes with a personal note explaining where and when the animal was found.
* No photos of the accident scene?
* “Who are you wearing?” “Nissan Sentra Raccoon, Route 53.”
* It’s great. They try and make the tire tread pattern part of the design.
* Well, heck – if there’s money involved, I’ll stop trying so hard to dodge those squirrels.
* The skins go to Petite Mort Furs and the innards go to Cajun restaurants.
* How about that pretentious name, huh? How does roadkill turn into Petite Mort Furs?
* Oh well, it beats today’s other weird animal story with the cat’s head scented water.
* They call that one Fluffy Brow Scented Fabric Water so clearly they need a phonier name.
* How about Eau de Cat’s Head?
