ADULTS ARE A BIGGER MARKET THAN KIDS IN THE TOY INDUSTRY

According to consumer trend company Circana, for the first time ever, toy demand from preschoolers was surpassed by demand from adults over the age of 18. Grownups accounted for $1.5 billion in toy sales from January to April of this year. And that is not adults buying toys for their kids; this is adults buying toys for themselves. For example: Jay Glatfelter, a 39-year-old grown-up man – a professional tech sales rep who moonlights as a “toy influencer,” says he spends about $4,800 a year on toys – $2,400 for himself and $2,400 combined on his six- and 10-year-old sons’ birthday and Christmas presents. The biggest sellers among adults: action figures, trading cards and Lego sets. A recent survey showed that 43% of adults purchased a toy for themselves during the past year.

* If beer is a toy, include me in that group.
* Lego sets are the new jigsaw puzzles for adult de-stressing. I mean, this guy has a six- and 10-year-old.
* Good to know that when the Chinese eventually invade us, we’ll be able to repel them with our GI Joe action figures. Which the Chinese made.
* Kids don’t need toys, they have imaginations. They can imagine their entire college fund going to dad’s toy collection.
