32 TONS OF CARROTS DUMPED ON STREET: ART

Nearly 32 tons of carrots were dumped onto a street on the campus of the University of London. Why? If you guessed “art project”, come and collect your prize. The pile of carrots is an art installation by Rafael Perez Evans, an art student at the university. The piece is titled “Grounding,” part of the Master of Fine Arts degree show, which runs Oct. 2-6. Evans says the installation is designed to raise awareness of food waste. She has arranged for the carrots to be removed at the end of the exhibition run and donated to animals.
* The animals thank you for all the delicious rotting vegetables.
* I don’t know if it’s a good demonstration of food waste but it’s a perfect demonstration of tuition waste.
* She calls it “Grounding.” Everybody else calls it “Littering.”
* Since when does a pile of carrots – dumped by a dump truck, no less, not even artfully arranged – become defined as “Fine Art”?
* Coulda been worse. Coulda been Brussels Sprouts.
