WHAT DO YOU POUR ON YOUR CEREAL?
A contributor to food site TheTakeout.com named Allison Shoemaker decided to try eating cereal with liquids other than milk. For the cereal, she used Corn Flakes or Cheerios. Here are some of her rankings:
– Corn Flakes and Orange juice: Kind of like eating granola with really tart dried fruit in it. 2 out of 5
– Kefir, a fermented milk drink: The strange not quite yogurt, not quite milk consistency seems like it would work fine for cereal, but texturally, it was pretty unappealing. 1 out of 5
– Iced coffee and Reese’s Puffs: it made a better dessert. 3 out of 5
– Apple juice: A strange experience texturally, like drinking wine with pieces of cork floating around. 2 out of 5
– Root beer: Tried it with Cheerios as well as Corn Flakes. Nope. 1 out of 5
– Hot coffee: Surprisingly appealing, but too strange to really keep going with. 2 out of 5
– Hot tea: The Cheerios seemed to enhance what sweetness there was, while the warmth, as with the coffee, made the experience vaguely oatmealish. 2 out of 5
– Hot chocolate: very good with Reese’s Puffs, and even better with Cheerios, Shredded Wheat, and Corn Flakes. 4 out of 5
– Hot broth: This is delicious. 5 out of 5
– Gin: It was like biting into a shot of gin while some Cheerios got in the way. Do not recommend. 1 out of 5
– Whiskey: Would not recommend. 1 out of 5
– Irish cream: Thought it would be delicious. I was very wrong. The worst part of the cereal-booze combo with the overwhelming sweetness or ice cream, only room temperature and syrupy. The nopest of nopes. 1 out of 5
– Mead: With plain old Cheerios, this was pretty tasty. 3 out of 5
– Beer: Guinness and Lucky Charms wasn’t bad. Other beers were just unpleasant in general. 2 out of 5
* Now THIS is science, kids. And you get paid for it.
* Although I’m sure, between the cost of cereal and what websites pay their writers, she lost money on the deal.
* This will give you some idea the lengths people have to go to when they’re lactose intolerant.
* Next: Allison tries this with ramen noodles.
