ENTERTAINMENT & CELEBRITIES

MARIAH CAREY DENIED TRADEMARK FOR “QUEEN OF CHRISTMAS”

The US Patent and Trademark Office on Tuesday denied singer Mariah Carey’s attempt to trademark the title “Queen of Christmas.” Carey had filed the trademark application in March 2021. Another songwriter, Elizabeth Chan, successfully blocked Carey from trademarking the title and using it on everything from music to perfume and mugs. Chan refers to herself as “the Queen of Christmas” on her website, although she is not stopping anyone else from using it. She says, “Christmas is a season of giving, not the season of taking, and it is wrong for an individual to attempt to own and monopolize a nickname like Queen of Christmas for the purposes of abject materialism. My goal in taking on this fight was to stand up to trademark bullying not just to protect myself, but also to protect future Queens of Christmas.”
* Boy, I bet that decision really roasted her chestnuts.
* Check out her newest holiday song, “All I Want For Christmas Is A Better Lawyer.”
* Mariah ought to try some other titles:
– Princess Pinecone
– Mistress Mistletoe
– The Overlord of Ornaments
– Kaiser Kringle
* Just curious – does anyone want to be Her Highness of Hanukah?

NEIMAN MARCUS FANTASY GIFT CATALOGUE

Have an extra million or two laying around? Here are some of the items from this year’s Neiman Marcus Fantasy Holiday Gift Catalogue:
– A $3.2 million Diamond Tiara: “Created in 1935, the extraordinary halo head ornament is set with 520 brilliant, single-cut diamonds of approximately 42.15 carats, as well as 92 baguette diamonds of approximately 8.03 carats. The peak of the tiara is tipped with an approximately 1.05-carat half-moon-shaped diamond. This mesmerizing work of art has been locked away in a private vault for 12 years and has never been offered for sale—until now.”
– A Maserati Grecale Trofeo SUV painted in iconic Barbie pink. Cost: $330,000.
– VIP tickets to a polo tournament in Aspen, Colorado, and one-on-one lessons with two polo champions. Comes with a two-night stay at The St. Regis Aspen Resort, and a private Argentinian asado dinner by chef Agustin Mallmann. Cost: $295,000
– A Customized 9-Hole Miniature Golf Course by Sweet Tooth Hotel — the “immersive and experiential art installation experts.” You’ll also receive 20 custom putters and 20 golf balls. Cost: $200,000.
– Shoot hoops with the legendary Scottie Pippen and his son, rising star Scotty Pippen Jr. in Los Angeles.Cost: $333,333.
Or, if you really need to cheap out this year:
– Master luxury designer and special occasion decorator Jim Marvin, who has decorated the White House, will decorate your home. “Marvin will welcome you into a private showroom to discuss your custom curations and present you with an enticing array of options. Once your exclusive pieces are created, the designer and his team will install your very own Christmas wonderland in time for a holiday reveal. Following the big unveiling, you and seven guests will enjoy a private, three-course Christmas meal prepared by a Neiman Marcus executive chef, paired with selected wines, and served by two waitstaff.” Cost: $190,000.
* Y’know … nothin’s really grabbin’ me this year.
* Although, the private polo lessons are tempting. I’m tired of being humiliated in front of my whole polo team.
* Remember their slogan: “You’ll find everything from excessively overpriced to unreasonably extravagant at Neiman Marcus.”
* Boy, that pesky inflation really is sneaking into everywhere, huh?
* Somehow, this is the one catalogue that never reaches my mailbox. But I get twenty from Pottery Barn.

U.S. NEWS

MAN DANCES ON TOP OF 18-WHEELER, UNTIL HE DOESN’T

A 25-year-old man climbed onto a moving semi-truck on the Eastex Freeway in Houston. He started to dance on top of the 18-wheeler. Until it passed underneath a bridge, where the dancing man slammed into the overpass and was knocked off the vehicle onto the freeway below. The man was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the truck was unaware someone had gotten on top of his vehicle. Authorities believe the man might have been recording himself as he danced atop the truck.
* Hey – the return of slam dancing!
* I saw this movie – “A Bridge Too Far.”
* Maybe instead of boogieing, he should have danced the limbo.
* What music was he dancing to? Wham?
* Maybe it was a folk dance. Because I’m sure the last thing that went through his mind was, “Aw, folk!”

CYCLIST CATCHES ILLEGAL LICENSE PLATE; NYPD DOESN’T THINK SO

A New York City lawyer named Adam White was bicycling to work when he saw a Chevy Suburban whose license plate had a piece of plastic covering one of the letters – both on the front and the back plate. Drivers do this to avoid bridge tolls and red light cameras and speed cameras. It offended his sense of law, so he pulled off the plastic cover, without realizing the driver was still in the car. The guy jumped out and started yelling at him about calling the cops. White said, “Great. Call the cops!” NYPD came, saw pictures of the offending license plate, talked to the driver, who was actually holding the plastic piece that made his plate illegal, and they did exactly what you’d expect: they ticketed Mr. White for the crime of “criminal mischief,” and let the driver with the illegal license plate go on his way.
* I’m sorry – am I supposed to be upset because a lawyer was treated poorly?
* His name is Adam White, but in his heart, he’s a Karen.
* If you live in this country for more than one week, and you still don’t get that butting into other people’s business is not a great way to conduct yourself, you deserve what you get.
* Suck it, libs!

INTERNATIONAL NEWS

GUY FINDS COMPANY’S $4 MILLION CHECK, GETS BAG OF CANDY AS THANKS

A German man is complaining after he found and returned a $4 million check to the Haribo Candy Corporation. The man spotted the check on a train platform and was surprised to see it was made out for a whopping €4,631,538 (euros). He contacted the Haribo company about his discovery. They requested that he destroy it and send them a photograph as proof, which he did. For his efforts, the company sent him a box with just six normal-size bags of their candies. He said: “I thought that was a bit cheap.” When scolded by the media, the company said it was simply ‘standard’ practice. Besides, since it was a named check, nobody but the Haribo company could have cashed it. “It was our standard package that we send as a thank you,” they said.
* Let’s be honest – you look at the bag of Haribo at the checkout and think, “I’ll have a Snickers.”
* True: there are many, many reviews on the internet of how Haribo Sugar-Free Gummi Bears work as a massive colon cleanse.
* Six bags of candy is their standard thank you. When they want to be mean, they send ten bags.
* This guy saved their accountant, what, about ten minutes of work cancelling out the check and cutting a new one? They ought to have given him 10 minutes worth of that person’s salary.
* Look, Hans, God knows when you’re only doing a good deed for the reward. Stop being a chump.
