BITTERSWEET CHOCOLATE DAY
LEAGUE OF NATIONS DAY
The History website says this:
“As a result of World War I, influential voices in the United States and Britain began calling for the establishment of a permanent international body to maintain peace in the postwar world. President Woodrow Wilson became a vocal advocate of this concept. Wilson suffered a severe stroke in 1918, which prevented him from convincing Congress to endorse the idea. On January 10, 1920, the League of Nations formally came into being when the Covenant of the League of Nations, ratified by 42 nations in 1919, took effect. The League of Nations proceeded without the United States, holding its first meeting in Geneva on November 15, 1920. In 1946, the mostly ineffectual body was officially dissolved with the establishment of the United Nations. The United Nations was modeled after the former but with increased international support and extensive machinery to help the new body avoid repeating the League’s failures.”
NATIONAL CUT YOUR ENERGY COSTS DAY
PECULIAR PEOPLE DAY
The Holiday Insights website says this:
“Peculiar People Day is in honor of uniquely different people. Un-ordinary, extraordinary, unusual, strange, odd, uncommon, intriguing, different, abnormal, and quirky … These are all things that we think of to describe the word ‘peculiar.’ Most of these characteristics can be viewed as good, or not so good. Today is a day to look for the good in your peculiar acquaintances.”
SAVE THE EAGLES DAY
The National Day Calendar website says this:
“Save the Eagles Day is observed annually on the 10th of January. Some species of eagles are on the endangered list. However, due to the work of scientists and the public, the Bald Eagle was removed from this list in June 2007. There are more than 70 species of eagles throughout the world. The only exception is Hawaii, where no species of eagles reside. Poaching, pesticides and other dangers continue to threaten eagle populations.”

DID TAYLOR SWIFT SECRETLY WRITE A NOVEL? NO.
(Note: this story is actually from last October. It’s being recycled now because of the upcoming release of the film)
For reasons only known to the internet, some people believe that Taylor Swift has written a novel and released it under a pseudonym. The book – a spy novel called “Argylle” – is by first-time author Elly Conway. The book itself has not yet been released but it has already been adapted into a film starring Bryce Dallas Howard that will be released on February 2, 2024. Here are the reasons people think the author is actually Taylor Swift:
– Elly Conway has an Instagram account but has not posted a photo of herself.
– In promotional material for the book, her first name is spelled as both “Elly” and “Ellie.”
– The author’s last name is Conway. Last March, Swift posted a photo of herself wearing a Conway Recording Studios sweater as she prepared for her Eras Tour. Swift often works out of Conway Studios in Los Angeles.
– Swift has worked under a pseudonym before, writing music under the name Nils Sjoberg.
– In “Argylle” the film, the author Elly Conway is a character, portrayed by Dallas Howard as a red-haired novelist. This is similar to a role Swift played as an author who wrote about her heartbreak in her short film “All Too Well.”
– The poster for Argylle shows a cat in a cat-backpack, similar to the cat-backpack Taylor Swift uses to carry around her cats.
– The Argylle Twitter account has been posting Taylor Swift lyrics from her songs “Wonderland,” “Blank Space” and “Style” as captions for picture stills from the movie.
* I thought this was ridiculous, too, until I heard about the cat carriers.
* Does the publisher realize that if they went along with this, they’d sell ten times as many books?
* Come on. Taylor Swift only writes about her ex-boyfriends, and she’s never dated a guy named Argylle.
* You tour like Taylor Swift and tell me you have time to read a book, much less write one.
* Elly Conway has an Instagram account but has not posted a photo of herself? Is that even allowed?
* This dumb story about Argylle really socks.

WHAT LIE HAVE YOU TOLD THAT SOMEONE BELIEVED?
Reddit asked, “What lie have you told that someone believed?” Some of the responses:
– “I have convinced a surprising number of people that civil rights leader Jesse Jackson is the eldest of the performing Jackson siblings and that he was never in the Jackson 5 because he was already too old.”
– “I once convinced my friends I was fluent in dolphin. Said I spent a summer internship as a marine mammal translator.”
– “In first grade I pretended to be left handed for the entire year. I just thought it was cooler.”
– “I told my mom when I was 19 years old that I won a prize at my university which consisted of a free trip to the UN in Geneva. The fake prize was awarded in December. In reality: I wanted to visit my boyfriend and my mom would have never let me at that age. I’m 31 now. She still brags about that prize with her friends. Who am I to take it away from her?”
– “I told my son that Alex Trebek was a robot. He believed me for a long time.”
– “My twin brother has an extra rib and I’m missing one.”
– “Some species of Wolves do in fact lay eggs.”
– “I have a friend who in his middle school days lied about playing the guitar so then he ended up learning guitar so he wouldn’t be found out. He says it’s the best thing that ever happened for him.”
* PHONE TOPIC: What strange lie did you convince someone was true?

HIT-RUN SUSPECT HAD METH IN HIS BUTTCHEEKS
A man involved in a hit-and-run in Flagler Beach, Florida, was hiding crystal meth between his buttcheeks after being pulled over by police. A woman named Clara Smith was actually driving at the time but her passenger, Andrew Croswell, claimed to be driving when the accident occurred. The 35-year-old said he did not stop because he didn’t think he had hit anyone. Deputies not only found methamphetamine in Smith’s purse, but Croswell admitted that he had crystal meth “between the cheeks,” and after —quote— “digging through his buttcrack,” the methamphetamine was recovered by the officers.
* …who just don’t get paid enough to do that.
* A couple of crack investigators.
* Worst. Man Purse. Ever.
* I’m no meth fiend, but I would say to that guy: you’re doing it wrong.
* It’s like Reese’s Cups: “Hey, you got meth in my crack.” “You got your crack on my meth!”
TEACHER BANS SLANG IN THE CLASSROOM
Somebody posted on the internet a list of slang words that a schoolteacher has banned from the classroom. The teacher said, “If you are caught using these words, you will write a short essay explaining why you chose to use these words in an academic setting to express yourself. The gibberish you choose to use is improper English and sometimes inappropriate for an academic setting. This is an educational institution, and you will carry yourselves as scholars in my classroom!”

* What I want to know is, what’s up with the vibe twins?
* I’m hearing Morgan Freeman as the teacher when they make this memo into a movie.
* Of course, by Friday, this slang will be ancient history.
EXERCISE LEGGINGS THAT SHOCK YOU
A biotech company called Barun Bio has designed workout leggings that shock you while you exercise. The company calls their exercise clothes “health-enhancing apparel” with their patented WE-Stim (which stands for Wearing Electrical Stimulation) technology. The company says the human body naturally produces “subtle electric fields,” and the We-Stim leggings conductive materials use the energy produced during physical activity. They claim the clothing creates a micro-current that stimulates the targeted muscles, offering “numerous health benefits,” such as muscle stimulation. And… uhhh… muscle stimulation. Company CEO Jinkee Hong – real name – says, “We’re not just creating a product; we’re pioneering a health revolution in apparel.”
* They’d better sell out the warehouse in about three days, because that’s how long it will take before the first TikTok of somebody going – “Oh my god, my new electric pants are electrocuting me!”
* Guys, you know what else is in your pants? “Hey, do you smell sausage frying?”
* WE-Stim… U-Sue.
* If you connect a couple batteries, the leggings will do the exercises for you.
* The last pair of pants that shocked the world was when Jelly Roll split a seam bending over to retrieve a guitar pick.

TEEN CRASHES CAR, COPS FIND MULTIPLE DRIVING OFFENSES ON HIS DASHCAM
A teenager in Sydney, Australia crashed his car during a street race back on December 12. Officers reviewed the 19-year-old’s dashcam footage after the crash and found 48 other separate driving-related offenses recorded on the camera. Marcellus Otero is now accused of driving under a suspended license, doing burnouts in a parking lot, driving negligently, recklessly or furiously, and many instances of speeding. Otero says, “I’ve got to stop driving like an idiot.”
* Police responded, “We can make that happen.”
* Hmm. I would have said “The dashcam is pointing out through the windshield. You can’t prove it was me driving.”
* So he was driving fastly and furiously.
* The kid needs one of those self-erasing black boxes like that Alaskan jet where the door plug blew off.
* It’s sad when your own car turns on you.
FAMILY FINDS CROCODILE IN THE CHICKEN COOP
Wildlife officers in Cape Hillsborough, a coastal city in northeast Australia, were called to a home where residents found a crocodile in their chicken coop. Fortunately, officials said, all chickens and pets living on the property were accounted for. The crocodile was transported to an animal shelter in Mackay, where it will remain until they can find it a new home at a licensed farm or zoo.
* That thing is an embarrassment to crocodiles.
* Maybe it’s trying to go vegan?
* Wait’ll the eggs in the nests start hatching, see what you get.
* Maybe it was a cry for help, and the crocodile just wants to be somewhere safe.
* That chicken coop needs a doorman.
