THE MOST MISPRONOUNCED FOOD NAMES

From Food and Drink, here is their list of the Most Mispronounced Food Names:
– Quinoa: Not “keen-oh-ah”, it’s “keen-wah”
– Chorizo: “Chuh-ree-zoh” and “chuh-ree-soh” are both considered acceptable, though in Castilian Spanish it’s “chuh-ree-tho”
– Camembert cheese: The T is silent
– Gyro: The correct pronunciation of gyro is “yee-roh”
– Pho: “fuh”
– Gouda: In South Holland, where it comes from, there’s guttural throat-clearing sound, like “gh-ouw-da”. But more simply, “how-da” (* To grocery store clerk: “Tell me, how’s da ‘how-da’ today?”
– Paella: “pie-aye-ya”
– Gruyère: grew-yeah” in the US, “gree-yeah” in British English
– Espresso: It is NOT “ex-press-oh”
– Açaí berries: The correct Brazilian pronounciation is “ah-sigh-ee”
– Latte: “la-teh”
– Viognier honeyed wine: “vee-own-yay”, or “vee-nyay”
– Sriracha: Drop the first “r” and pronounce it “see-ra-cha”
– Jarlsberg: No J, just “yarls-berg”
– Beignet: The New Orleans pillowy, puffed-up donuts should be pronounced “funnel cake”, but if you can’t manage that, it’s “ben-yay”
– Quesadilla: “ke-sah-dee-yah” or, in Spanish, “ke-sah-thee-yah”
– ‘Nduja Italian pork sausage: “en-doo-ya”
– Chipotle: “chi-poat-lay”, NOT “chi-pot-el”
– Ferrero Rocher chocolates: “fur-rare-row row-shey”
– Bruschetta: “broo-sket-tah”
– Nutella: “new-tell-uh”, NOT “Nut-ella”
* I still can’t get past “pasketti.”
* “Go ahead,” says Food and Drink, “start using these and have everybody look at you like you’re an idiot.”
* Pho is “fuh.” That is totally fuhhed up.
* Does anyone still give Target the French pronunciation of “Tar-shay”?
