SURVEY: YOUNG OFFICE WORKERS JUST WANT RESPECT
A new study finds that today’s young workers care primarily about how they are treated by their managers. In the recent past, companies have added perks like ping pong and foosball tables, gyms and video games to make the office more enjoyable. But researchers at Kansas State University and the University of Missouri surveyed employees between the ages of 21 and 34 and found the workers place more value on respect, rather than trendy new accessories. They would rather have the flexibility to work from home and solid communication from superiors. Workers say they want to be “respected for who you are beyond your position.”
* Oh, shut up and just get me my fries.
* I wonder if their parents had anything to do with this. You know – Mr. and Mrs. Snowflake.
* But if you can’t get respect for who you are beyond your position, try to get donuts in the break room. And the good raised donuts, too, not the crappy cakey donuts.
* You want respect? Be the guy who beats everybody at the office ping pong table. That’s respect.
* And if you don’t soon finish with that survey and hang up the phone, you’re fired!
