STUNTMAN TO FLY ROCKET ACROSS TEXAS CANYON

โ€˜Madโ€™ Mike Hughes, a jackass – er, stunt-man from Los Angeles, is planning to attempt the longest and possibly the most dangerous rocket jump in history. Heโ€™s going to launch himself in a rocket across the Palo Duro Canyon in Texas, hopefully breaking his own previous record of jumping 1,374 feet. Hughes, who calls himself the โ€˜Current King of the Daredevilsโ€™, will perform the stunt on April 2 at The Palo Duro Zipline Adventure Park, located 25 miles from Amarillo. Heโ€™ll be using the steam-powered X-2 Steam Rocket, powered by steam pressure rather than rocket fuel. The tank is expected to build up sufficient pressure to launch him off a steel ramp and set him sailing across the Park area and over the gorge called the โ€˜Grand Canyonโ€™ of Texas. Hughes will finish the stunt by deploying a parachute to land safely on the ground. Tickets to view the highly dangerous stunt will be sold at the Park on the day of the event itself.
* Since the dawn of time, man has been striving for the ability to propel himself across a deep chasm in a steam-powered rocket.
* Say, that wouldn’t be an ACME steam-powered X-2 Steam Rocket by chance, would it? I used to watch this movie on the Saturday morning cartoons.
* How do you steam-power a rocket? Is he inside shoveling coal?
* You’ve heard of Evel Knievel? This is Chuckle K-nucklehead.”
* Hey – don’t give them illegals any new ideas about how to get over here.
* Forgive me for bringing some actual sanity into this discussion, but doesn’t the rocket mean it’s not a jump – it’s a flight?
* Otherwise it’s not really a rocket. It’s more like a steam cannon.
* What difference does it make? It’ll probably end up as a crater in the desert anyway.
* Yeah, you think the canyon is big, wait till you see the hole in the ground this thing makes.
