SOUTH KOREA GYMS BAN FAST MUSIC

South Korea has banned fast music in gyms and has limited treadmills to 4mph under new Covid rules. Gyms cannot play music with higher than 120 beats per minute (bpm) during group exercises such as aerobics and spinning. Health officials say the measure was intended to prevent breathing too fast or splashing sweat on other people. Gym owners see the rules as barely effective or unrealistic to maintain. One owner says, “Many people use their own earphones, and how do you control their playlists?” (* Ask China. The government controls EVERYTHING over there.)
– Examples of 130 bpm songs: Black Eyed Peas’ I Gotta Feeling; Maroon 5’s Moves Like Jagger; JLo’s On the Floor; Pink’s Get the Party Started
– Examples of 120 bpm songs include Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance, Poker Face; Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’; Carly Rae Jepson’s Call Me Maybe
– Examples of 100 bpm: Third Eye Blind’s Semi-Charmed Life; Justin Timberlake’s Rock Your Body; Beyoncé’s Crazy In Love; ABBA’s Dancing Queen
* So you end up with a nation of people less fit to fight the COVID?
* Hold on — I’m still fixated on the “splashing sweat” part.
* You could contain the sweat by having the people at the gym wear “Masked Singer” costumes.
* They could surround every treadmill with a box made of plexiglass, but I think we used it all.
* Well, if we’re all going to die, it might as well be to a kickass soundtrack.
