SCIENCE: GO TO CONCERTS, LIVE LONGER
A study by the concert venue/promoter O2 Arena in the United Kingdom has done a study that claims attending a live music gig every couple of weeks could boost your life expectancy by nine years. The study, sponsored by – let’s repeat this – CONCERT PROMOTER O2 – was performed by Patrick Fagan, an expert in behavioral science at Goldsmiths University. The study looked at heart-rate tests for a range of so-called “well-being activities,” which included yoga, dog walking and going to see live music. The live music metric performed the best of all the well-being activities. The people who went to see live music had their feelings of well-being go up by 21%. The study says people seeing concerts every few weeks were most likely to be happy, content, productive and have higher self-esteem, which “could pave the way for almost a decade more years of life.”
* Well, I know one expert in behavioral science who just got lifetime front-row seats at the O2 Arena.
* What’s the bias on this study? Plus-or-minus 300%?
* Or it could be that people who are happy, content, productive and have higher self-esteem are more willing to get out of the house to go see a concert. DUHHH! DUHHHHH!!!!!!!
* The one caveat was John Tesh concerts. John Tesh concerts actually knock years off your life.
* Sure, you’ll live longer. You’ll be deaf for the second half, but you’ll live longer.
