POLITE CANADIAN DRIVERS CAUSING ACCIDENTS

Canadians are known for their niceness. Unfortunately, this can lead to problems. In the town of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, there has been a rash of accidents caused by people being too nice, according to the city’s police force. Drivers have been yielding their right of way to others, waving for them to “go ahead and pull out, I can wait”, but what happens is it screws up everybody else and causes accidents. It’s gotten to the point that the police department had to issue a tweet discouraging drivers from yielding. The Summerside Police wrote, “Motorists, please don’t be the ‘nice person’ who waves a driver across 2 lanes of traffic. Although you may have good intentions, this leads to collisions!”
* Townsfolk responded that the tweet wasn’t very nice.
* We already know you’re a good person, because you’re a Canadian. There’s no need to do things to make you feel better about yourself.
* Look, folks, if you’re not using your God-given power of right-of-way, then YOU are the hazard.
* We can deprogram them. Send ’em here to drive in New York for a week.
* PHONE TOPIC: Is it wrong to be too polite on the road?
