NOBODY LEAVES HOME ANYMORE
A new study by the US Census Bureau and Harvard University found that by age 26 more than two-thirds of young adults in the US still lived in the same area where they grew up; 80% had moved less than 100 miles away; and 90% lived less than 500 miles away. For people who do leave their hometowns, New York, Los Angeles, Washington and Denver were the most population destinations.
* Leave home? What, and miss out on lasagna night?
* Uh … has anyone at the Census Bureau or Harvard University seen the price of gas lately? DUHHH!!!
* So much for the American spirit of adventure.
* Here’s what happens: You move 500 miles away, then it’s “Oh, look! They have a Home Depot, too! Oh, look! They have IHOP, too! Kroger! Dollar Tree! Ace Hardware! Walmart, Costco, Best Buy, Lowes, Target, Walgreens …” Why bother?
* It’s ironic that now that we have FaceTime, Zoom and unlimited phone calls, people still want to be able to see their mommy in person.
