NEW STUDY SAYS STUDIES ARE BOGUS
A new study says that studies are bogus. Researchers from the University of California at Berkeley studied studies and found that research which evaluates large groups of people leads to skewed results.
– For example, they looked at one study that focused on how frequently depression sufferers reported feeling worried. Results showed that depressed people worry a significant amount. But when they asked the questions to many individuals, the results were all over the map. Some participants worried hardly at all, while others were notably beyond the group average.
– Another experiment that centered around the link between fear and avoidance showed a strong correlation when measured as a group. Yet, when tested individually, a significant number of participants who experienced fear had no issues with avoiding various activities.
– Looking at six different experiments, the authors could not show that what was concluded for the large group applied to most individuals.
The new study concludes that because human beings can be so markedly different from one another, often-studied subjects like mental health and physiology can yield unreliable conclusions when based on massive segments of a population. They claim that in order to get a better and more accurate grasp of mankind, scientists need to study people individually.
* Or people need to stop lying when they’re being studied.
* If individuals are so different, how come our whole population is now split between only two groups?
* Oh – I didn’t mean liberal and conservative. I meant those who hate Nickleback and those who don’t.
* Obviously this needs more… I was going to say “study”, but I think it needs more liquor.
* This is the “Inception” of studies.
