MOVE HALLOWEEN?
A Halloween industry group called the Halloween & Costume Association has started a Change.org petition to move the holiday to the last Saturday of October. The reason they give: “safety”. The group claims there are “3,800 Halloween-related injuries each year.” Additionally, they say, a large majority of parents – 70 percent, according to the industry – don’t accompany their kids while trick-or-treating. “Why cram it into 2 rushed evening weekday hours when it deserves a full day!?!” the group asked. As of Friday, the petition, titled the “Saturday Halloween Movement,” garnered more than 7,200 signatures out of its 7,500 goal.
* This is all we need – an entire day of ringing doorbells.
* How am I supposed to pretend to not be home for a whole Saturday?
* No! Halloween is a sacred day, like Black Friday, or Lincoln’s birthday.
* Halloween isn’t just two hours a year. We should carry Halloween in our hearts every day. Which we do, by eating so much candy all the time.
PHONE TOPIC: Should we move Halloween to the last Saturday in October, or is this just a ploy by the Halloween industry to make more money? (Hint: yes, it is.)
