INDONESIAN CAPITAL CITY SINKING SO IT’S RELOCATING

And so it begins. The president of Indonesia announced Monday that they’re going to move the country’s capital from Jakarta, on the island of Java, because the city is sinking into the ocean. Jakarta is an Asian mega-city of 30 million people. It is prone to earthquakes and flooding and is rapidly sinking due to uncontrolled extraction of ground water. Current estimates predict half the city will be underwater by 2030. Indonesian President Joko Widodo said Jakarta is overcrowded, sinking and polluted. The new capital city, which does not yet have a name, will be on the eastern side of Borneo island, known for beautiful rainforests and orangutans.
* But not for much longer.
* Maybe they can move the orangutans to the Amazon – oh, no, wait – –
* They’re abandoning Jakarta? I call dibs on the copper pipes!
* President Widodo has a message for the Jakartan people, and that message is: “How long can you tread water?”
* On the bright side, the dolphins will enjoy their cool underwater city.
