HEAD TRANSPLANT MAN GETS MARRIED, CALLS OFF OPERATION
Remember the man who volunteered for the world’s first head transplant? He’s cancelled the operation because he has a new girlfriend and “miracle” baby son. Valery Spiridonov, 33, suffers from severe spinal muscular atrophy, a disease which leads to a shortened life span. He was ready to have his head cut off and reattached to a new body by Italian Professor Sergio Canavero. But he has changed his mind after starting a family with new wife, Anastasia Panfilova. Their little boy was born six weeks ago and is healthy. The family has moved to America where Mr. Spiridonov is now studying at the University of Florida. Meanwhile, Dr. Phibes— er, Professor Canavero is now working in China where he has received funding for his transplant research.
* You could say he “headed” east. A-ha.
* Professor Canavero isn’t getting anywhere with his head transplant project, but he’s getting really good at conning people out of money.
* Good to see Mr. Spiridonov kept his head about him.
* He’s not going to need all those ascots everybody bought him for Christmas presents.
* Which one is the head of their family? Or is that interchangeable?
* Anastasia Panfilova. That happened to me the other night. I was trying to serve a Papa John’s Pan Pizza, but the Panfilova.
