TODAY IS …
(All days repeat annually on today’s date unless otherwise noted; days may or may not be called “National”/”International”/”World” depending on source; sources listed often have additional info. We generally do not list special days which were created by commercial companies for the purpose of marketing – including “holidays” created by the National Day Calendar and Wellcat websites to drive traffic to their websites – or the hundreds of disease awareness listings which occur each year. We present only those specially designated days we feel your listeners would find most interesting or significant.)
BABY DAY
The Holiday Calendar says this:
“This special day was created to commemorate the joy and wonder of bringing a baby into the world. It’s also an opportunity to celebrate all the amazing things that babies bring to our lives – from unconditional love and laughter to endless snuggles and cuddles. Whether you have a little one in your life already or are expecting soon, Baby Day is the perfect time to reflect on the beauty of new life.”
INTERNATIONAL HARRY POTTER DAY
The Days of the Year website says this:
“In 2012, then prime minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron, made a declaration that this day would be celebrated on May 2 of each year, saying, “We hope that children and adults alike will be reminded of Harry Potter’s strong and courageous character on this day.” This date was chosen because it is the day that the great Battle of Hogwarts was fought and Lord Voldemort was defeated.”
NATIONAL BROTHERS AND SISTERS DAY
NATIONAL/INTERNATIONAL SPACE DAY (First Friday in May)
The Days of the Year website says this:
“This day was created to observe the many wonders of the unknown space that our planet, and plenty of others, floats in. It was started by Lockheed Martin, the aerospace company, with an eye toward inviting students to consider a career in the aerospace industry and to encourage children to have more of an interest in the scientific field. In 2001, Senator John Glenn, himself a former astronaut, changed the name to National Space Day to widen its scope of celebration.”
NATIONAL TRUFFLES DAY

TOM CRUISE’S PRE-STUNT BREAKFAST
Tom Cruise has revealed the key to performing those death-defying “Mission: Impossible” stunts: breakfast. In a new interview with People magazine, Cruise talked about a stunt in the upcoming movie where he clings to the wing of a 1940s biplane mid-air before pulling himself up and crawling into the cockpit. Cruise explains: “I actually eat a massive breakfast. The amount of energy it takes — I train so hard for that wing-walking. I’ll eat, like, sausage and almost a dozen eggs and bacon and toast and coffee and fluids.”
* Breakfast. And amphetamines.
* “Oh, look at me! I’m Tom Cruise! I can afford a dozen eggs every day! Oh, la-dee-dah!”
* I eat that much just to face rush hour traffic.
* Not even a doughnut? Come on, would you do something so risky without having what could be your last doughnut?
THE BUZZ
I BOUGHT IT BECAUSE I WASN’T ALLOWED TO HAVE IT AS A CHILD
Reddit asked, “What’s something you bought as an adult because you weren’t allowed to have it as a child?” Some of the responses:
– “Dinosaur bed sheets and pillow cases. I first bought them in my 50s.”
– “Mouse Trap, the board game.”
– “That game where you have a hit the ‘iceberg’ blocks and not break the ice causing a penguin to fall. It’s not that I wasn’t allowed to have it, but that in school other kids would use it and I never got a turn. I bought it for my niece and we had a lot of fun.”
– “Band-Aids with cartoons on them.”
– “I buy my kids a lot of Play-doh, and other messy things that my parents wouldn’t buy me because the house always had to be presentable in case the Queen was coming over.”
– “When I was very little, we would go through the Sears Catalog to make our Christmas Lists. For 5 years I asked for a Crawl Thru Tunnel. I never got one. I bought my cats two of them.”
– “Any time I’m traveling and there’s a penny press, I use it. 7-year-old me is absolutely delighted every time.”
– “Chucks.”
– “A gumball machine.”
– “Taco Bell (we’re Mexican).”
– “A waterbed. Terrible idea, do not recommend.”
– “An Advent calendar. My mom said she never got me one cuz she knew I’d eat it all in one day. She was right.”
– “A big tub of Nutella. I wasn’t allowed to have too much sugar as a kid, so now I keep it stocked like it’s a kitchen essential.”
– “My first week of college I realized that I could eat an entire loaf of garlic bread for dinner and not get in trouble. I later learned why my mom didn’t allow me to eat an entire loaf of garlic bread for dinner.”
– “When I got my first job in high school I got a box of those Andes chocolate mints you would get at restaurants. Instead of waiting for the rare occasion my parents take me to a restaurant and they happen to give them with the check… I realized I could buy the whole damn box.”
– “I painted my bedroom black. It’s amazing, and shove it, mom.”
* PHONE TOPIC: What’s something you bought as an adult that you weren’t allowed to have as a kid?
U.S. NEWS
WOMAN DEFECATES ON OTHER CAR IN ROAD RAGE INCIDENT
On Tuesday in Prospect Park, Pennsylvania, just southwest of Philadelphia, there was a road rage incident. At one point, both drivers stopped. A woman got out of one of the cars, walked over to the other car, and put her rear end against the hood. And left some dooky. Then she walked away with a smile. It was all caught on video. Because it happened in Delaware County, the woman is now being called “The Delco Pooper.” Prospect Park police say they are investigating.
(If you really need to see this, search YouTube for “Delco Pooper”)
* Normally they’d put her on a Most Wanted list, but in this case she’s going on a Least Wanted list.
* You give this lady some crap, she’ll give you some right back.
* I understand the women of Philadelphia often mark their territory for dominance.
* I’ve been so angry I could spit, but not this.
HOW TO TELL IF SOMEONE IS LYING: THEY USE THE WORD “NEVER”
How do you know if somebody is lying? According to trial lawyer Jefferson Fisher, a Texas-based attorney and communication coach, people who lie often reach for what he calls extreme words, in particular the word “never.” He says, “Never is an extreme. Extremes are a dead giveaway that they’re usually not telling the truth.” For example, he said if a witness were asked if he was texting while driving, his deceptive answer might be, “No, I never text when I drive.” The word stands out because it’s too confident. “Everybody texts while they drive at some point. That’s why the word stands out.”
* What if you ask, “Did you murder your boss?” and they say, “No, I never text when I drive.” Is that a lie?
* What if you ask, “Do you use the word ‘never’ when you lie?” and they say, “No, because I never lie.” Are they telling the truth?
* It’s an interesting story, but I never … believe anything lawyers say.
* Never say never again. Why does that sound familiar?

PATROL CAR STOLEN WHILE COPS WERE ON FOOT CHASE
Police in Saskatoon, Canada, were patrolling downtown Sunday morning when they spotted a drunk man, who was carrying open liquor. This is illegal and so, after a short foot chase, they arrested him. Returning to their patrol car, they discovered it had been stolen while they were gone. It was found about 15 minutes later in a back alley a couple of blocks away.
* Worst of all, the thief changed all the station presets on the radio.
* “Dude, where’s my cop car?”
* Maybe somebody thought it was like a Lyft e-scooter service – you take the vehicle, drop it anywhere, and the company will find it and charge you later.
* Sometimes in real life you want to do stuff you could only do in Grand Theft Auto.
* And if they find who took the cop car, they will definitely be charged.
