FRENCH BEAUTY PAGEANT SUED FOR PICKING “THE MOST ATTRACTIVE”
Three former Miss France candidates are suing the beauty pageant for alleged discrimination because they selected contestants – get this – based on their appearance. The women have joined forces with a leading French feminist group to file a complaint. The group is targeting the Miss France company and Endemol Production, which makes the annual TV show. They argue the pagerant is breaking French labor law by having discriminatory selection criteria, obliging aspiring beauty queens to be more than 5-foot-5-inches tall, single and ‘representative of beauty’. Contestants are also not allowed to gain weight, change their hair, have any tattoos or piercings other than their ears, or had any children. French labor code forbids companies from discriminating on the basis of ‘morals, age, family status or physical appearance.’
* Perhaps the words “beauty pageant” translate differently in France.
* This is ridiculous. If you’ve ever been to France, you know there simply are no ugly people in France. They completely bred out unattractiveness. Unlike, say, Belarus, or Rhode Island.
* Next they’re going to go after athletes: “It’s unfair that you only let the fastest people into the race.”
