FOUR KIDS TAKE CAR, DRIVE 600 MILES
Four children aged 10 to 14 packed fishing rods in their parent’s SUV, left a farewell note, then drove more than 600 miles down the Australian east coast before they were stopped by police. The 14-year-old boy, two other boys aged 13, and a 10-year-old girl left Rockhampton on Saturday, and were stopped by police near Grafton, 600 miles away, at 10:40 p.m. Sunday. The 14-year-old lived in Grafton, which might have been the children’s destination. They locked the doors and refused to get out, so a police officer used a baton to break a window. The children are suspected of failing to pay for gasoline at gas stations in two towns. They were also chased by police at one point, but due to the age of the driver and the road conditions, the chase was called off.
* Sorry, kids, Wally World’s closed. Moose out front shoulda told ya’.
* “We don’t have any money for gas, but we’ll swing by on the way back and give you some fish.”
* Took off in their parents’ car, stole gas, got a window broken … oh, and also, they didn’t have a fishing license.
* The trip went fine, except you never heard so many cries of, “I’m bored.”
* When you’re a kid AND you’re driving, do you ask yourself “Am I there yet?”
